Sonia by Sonia Rykiel SS 2014

Whether winning or wicked, modern or timeless, she always likes to surprise: paradox is her second-nature. Her style comes naturally, with that touch of impertinence that makes all the difference. She is quite simply, Sonia. Sonia bends the Rykiel rules, she makes them her own and she thrusts them back at the world. She demands colour, pastel or powerful, and delights in exposing it to black. Black for contrast, for intensity, for that extra something… That black – graphicand mysterious. Enveloping hand-made knits of reassuring naivety are undercut by leather in pastel or that black that elsewhere bisects a deceptively demure shirt-dress, leaving only the sleeves in Oxford blue. Meanwhile, bold stripes in multicolour emblazon a jumper-dress of crepe-de-chine that clings tantalisingly to the naked body. She loves the “Kiss me Henry” print; it puts her in mind of Matisse, and it works just as well in a cotton mix as it does embroidered on a crêpe jacket. She resonates in Sky blue and Emerald green, delights in the clash of Peony pink with orange-red before recovering harmony in the blend of Opaline grey and Tutu pink. And she’s got a playful sense for proportion, equally partial to the very short and the over-long, always keen to buck the trend. She doesn’t really care for decorum and in fact she’s downright sassy, but she really is one-of-a-kind. She’s the Sonia By Sonia Rykiel woman….\n
